"A Community that SWEATS Together, STAYS Together."

We want to provide a safe, encouraging, and positive environment for adults, kids, and athletes of all ages to learn, improve, and reach their health and fitness goals. Most importantly we want to be a place that people leave healthier and happier than when they walked in.

June Athlete of the Month- Lucy Plews

Tell us a little about yourself and family- Hobbies, interests, where you grew up, occupation, etc.

I was born in Michigan but was meant to be an Oregonian. I am the oldest of two (but everyone thinks we are twins), and the whole family has been a part of BCF at one point. My dad and I are the only current members at BCF as of now. I will say getting to do workouts with my dad has been one of my favorite things I have gotten to do since I came back to BCF. I love swimming, hiking, surfing, rafting, and of course working. Being busy is basically how I role. I love being a firefighter and EMT and would spend every minute training if I could. Oh, and I am a senior (finally) at Pacific University finishing a degree in Kinesiology.

How did you hear about BCF and what made you want to join?

My brother and Dad have been doing CrossFit for a long time. I just took a long time to come to my senses and try it out. I spent so long competitively swimming and playing soccer that I thought they were the only sports I could play. After quitting swimming and spending a year feeling out of shape, I got talked into competing in the 2019 Cross Town-Throw Down, and I don’t plan on ever quitting!

What motivates you to come to the box week after week?

I have a couple motivators! I think the people keep me walking back to the box every day! There are few communities that are as close and have such healthy values in the world like the BCF family. Other than the people, it’s my fear of not being able to do the job. Every day I want to be better than the last and be stronger than the last. So, I guess maybe there will be days that will suck and there will be days you want to quit, but I think if you keep trying there will be a reward.

What are your goals? Personal, professional, and/or athletic?

I want to get hired as a firefighter and get paid to do something that I am passionate for. As far as athletically, I just want to be stronger and more capable each day. Being able to actually kip and maybe string some pull ups would be a nice plus.

What is your favorite lift, movement or WOD? Least Favorite?

My favorite lift/movement is a hard one… I hate but love the assault bike! Dumbbell snatches are always a good time until they aren’t… Burpees can go die, or running. Actually, running is definitely my least favorite.

What is your proudest CF moment?

My proudest moment isn’t really at CrossFit, but it was because of CrossFit. I had taken the CPAT (firefighter physical test to apply for jobs) three times and had failed each time. It was because I went back to CrossFit, got motivated and started getting stronger I was able to pass easily. So maybe it took me four times, but I didn’t give up, and I thank the community of CrossFit for being welcoming, encouraging and pushing me!

What is one tip you would give someone who is interested in CrossFit or new to CrossFit?

I would just tell them to do the best they can. If you give your best every day, and you just focus on working hard then the hard work will pay off.

Biggest impact CrossFit has made in your life?

CrossFit has motivated me, and given me some of the best people in my life. I love that the community is a wholesome community full of people bettering themselves and suffering together through the worst workouts that may be thought of.
