"A Community that SWEATS Together, STAYS Together."

We want to provide a safe, encouraging, and positive environment for adults, kids, and athletes of all ages to learn, improve, and reach their health and fitness goals. Most importantly we want to be a place that people leave healthier and happier than when they walked in.

WHAT 5am?!

Oh man your coaches must LOVE you! BCF we are adding a 5am class to our schedule on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday starting Monday, July 23rd! Please note these classes will have an 18 person cap and are first come based on your Wodify reservation.

Monthly Hot Topic!

What kinds of things should you be carrying in your gym bag? For the next few weeks, we’ve decided to “unpack” our gym bags and talk about each of the products all athletes need to have and why!

This week we’re talking about Hand Care! At BCF, we have WOD REPAIR Products available to purchase. We have 4 different items to help you keep your hands healthy through the wear and tear of everyday CrossFit WODs.

1. Maintenance: A daily post workout moisturizer that helps to maintain healthy hands and callouses and helps prevent rips. It’s filled with Beeswax, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and Coconut Oil.

2. Rapid Repair: A post workout moisturizer that helps to soothe torn hands and helps speed up the healing process. For rips, apply several times daily until healed.

3. Razor and Pumice Stone: These two items are all about keeping your hands healthy on a daily or weekly basis. The Pumice Stone is great for smoothing out rough hands, and the Razor is great for shaving down callouses that have gotten too big.

4. Hand Elixir: This is a first response spray for fresh wound and abrasions. It helps to heal the affected area without the burn like generic antiseptic sprays. It helps to stop bleeding, soothes irritated tissue, cleans wounds and helps to spend up the healing process.

Closing up Shop Today!

Due to the hot weather today, we will be cancelling our 4:15pm class. The rest of the classes this evening are still on! See you all tonight!

Athlete of the Month - Emily Byerly

From the moment Emily walked through the doors of BCF she has not once given up, and the coaches have not once given up on her. She comes in almost everyday from a straining janitorial job at Intel, ready to get to work and improve! If there is a movement that she is not able to do, a new movement is put into place and she moves right through the entire workout not once giving up or saying its too hard. She has put in so much work, every week to improve her lifts with multiple PR's in almost every movement! She is the reason she was chosen to be athlete of the Month!

Tell us a little about yourself and family- Hobbies, interests, where you grew up, occupation, etc.

Between work and Crossfit who has time for hobbies. Crossfit has become my hobby. I was born in New York City. I grew up in Berkeley California. I have been married 32 years and have two children. One boy (20) and one girl (23). I Like to do puzzles, reading, bowling and I enjoy swimming.

How did you hear about BCF and what made you want to join?

My husband found BCF. My husband and son nagged and encouraged me for a year to try Crossfit. I finally gave in even though I was scared and had no desire to lift a single weight. But now I love Crossfit, lifting weights and the BCF family.

What are your goals? Personal, professional, and athletic?

My biggest personal goal right now is to continue losing weight by going to BCF. I need my knee replaced and I want to be strong so that I can heal and bounce back faster. Other goals are to be more organized with my time, swim more, get stronger, have more energy and be less winded when doing day to day activities.

My athletic goals are to be able to jump rope, rope climb, chin-ups, pullups, handstands, to get better at the movements and to ride a real bicycle for 10 miles.

What is your favorite movement? Non-favorite movement?

My favorite movement is the dead lift. My least favorite movements are the ones that I can't do yet.

What is your proudest CF moment?

I have several proud moments at CF. The first one was my first 12 inch box step up because I couldn't even do one. The most recent two were getting my toes to hit the bar laying on the floor and being able to do 150 abmat sit-ups within the workout because I couldn't even do one when I started.

What is 1 thing that people would be surprised to find out about you?

I am actually a very shy person.

What is your biggest motivation in life?

My biggest motivation is all the coaches and members at BCF. When I feel like I can't go on I get encouragement to finish. Also the faith that everyone else has in me that I don't always have in myself to finish the workout, to lift a little bit more, to go a little bit faster, try a new way or a new movement. With that kind of support I know I will continue to improve my fitness level.

What is Murph?
In memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.

This workout was one of Mike's favorites and he'd named it "Body Armor". From here on it will be referred to as "Murph" in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.

A team of 4 Navy Seals led by LT. Michael P. Murphy on a mission to capture or kill a key Taliban leader, found themselves seriously outnumbered in a firefight with hundreds of enemy troops. Pinned down and under intense enemy fire, their communications operator severely wounded, they were in desperate need for help. Due to the mountainous terrain, their communications could not be received. Understanding the situation, LT. Michael P. Murphy moved to open ground, to use his satellite phone, exposing himself to enemy fire. LT Murphy was mortally wounded making that call. They continued fighting until Lt. Murphy and two of his three team mates were mortally wounded. His fourth team member, severely injured himself, managed to escape and was rescued 4 days later. He went on to tell the story in a book and movie titled “The Lone Survivor”.

For his selfless leadership, courageous actions and extraordinary devotion to duty, LT. Michael P. Murphy was posthumously rewarded the Medal of Honor, the first service member to receive the medal for service in Afghanistan, and the first Navy recipient of the medal since Vietnam.

You can learn more about the challenge here: https://themurphchallenge.com/

Let's Make a Difference BCF!
In unison with honoring Lt Murph and celebrating Memorial Day we have an amazing opportunity to help a local CrossFit athlete and high school math teacher battling Oligodendroglioma. Starting Monday May 14th and running through the Murph Challenge on the 28th, a donation jar will be set up at the box. Our hope is that everyone that participates in Murph can spare $10 to donate to this amazing man. We know thats What Lt. Murphy would want us to do. All proceeds will be given directly to this man and his family. To learn more about Dave and his fight we have linked the Facebook event page for this cause.

May Athlete of the Month-Tyler Exline

The amazing thing about CrossFit is that is can be a family activity! And that is just what the Exline's do! On a daily basis you will see the WHOLE family at the box together. It's really a neat thing to witness. Tyler has literally grown up in the box the last 5 years and his progress and strength has grown. He was chosen to be Athlete of the Month because of his hard work and dedication in all aspects of his life and ultimately landing himself in the top! He ended his 2018 CrossFit Open experience, finishing number 113 in the WORLD among boys ages 14-15! Pretty dang awesome coming from a small town box!

New Program at BCF: Women's Strength

We are proud to be offering the first-ever Women’s Strength program at BCF with Coach Jenn! Look for a signup sheet at the box later today!

"Women's Strength is about women empowering women. In an intimate setting athletes are coached to tap into that place from within where the pure, raw strength comes from.

An emphasis is placed on mental preparedness and eliminating distractions. No phones, kiddos or significant others - we're taking pen to paper here in our weight calculations and, giving ourselves an undistracted hour to better our minds, bodies and souls. Because that is what weightlifting can do for a woman -- it's more than just lifting weights. When we go internally to harness the physical strength, we are often surprised at the mental and emotional gains as well." - Coach Jenn

April Athlete of the Month-Hillary Demanett

There was absolutely NO QUESTION who was April's Athlete of the Month! Hillary is killing the CrossFit game! If you see her on Wodify, you notice shes a beast on the rower and bike, has cardio for days, and everyday is getting stronger in all her lifts. This past month, she achieved her 1st ever strict pull-up, followed by another 4! Completed the Crossfit Level 1 certification course, and had taken on the Kids Camps! I am constantly in awe of all she can do and excited to see where the next few years take her! Hillary, you are so deserving of this in every way! Welcome to the BCF team!

Tell us a little about yourself and family - Hobbies, interests, where you grew up, occupation, etc.

I grew up in Coos Bay, Oregon. Ive been married for 14 years and have 3 kids. 1 boy and 2 girls. Im a stay at home mom and Crossfit is my hobby 😄 I used to run marathons but quit when I discovered how much I love the weights and the community.

How did you hear about BCF and what made you want to join?

I heard about BCF when I googled “Crossfit gyms near me” and a groupon add popped up. I thought I’d try it out for a month. But then never left.

What are your goals? Personal, professional, and athletic?

My professional goal is to be the best kids coach I can be!! I hope they like me! As an athlete, I want to be Alise :) I want to get stronger, lift heavier, and enjoy the process along the way.

What is your favorite movement? Non-favorite movement?

I love wall balls and burpees! (Don’t hate me!) I'm also starting to love snatches! Oh and squat cleans. I don’t really care for deadlifts. They’re kind of boring. Guess I should work on that.

What is your proudest CF moment?

My proudest moment was FINALLY getting a pull-up. That’s something I’ve wanted to do my whole life.

What is one thing that people would be surprised to find out about you?

People might be surprised to know I was a caddy at Brandon Dunes gold resort. I once caddied for Michael Jordan.

What is your biggest motivation in life?

My biggest motivations in life are definitely my kids.

Biggest impact CrossFit has made in your life?

Oh gosh what hasn’t Crossfit done for me. It has completely changed my way of thinking when it comes to body image. It’s made me more confident in who i am and how I’m built. I’m seeing it in my girls and how they view themselves as well. They talk about how they want to be strong and healthy as they grow. It has also helped my son with his health issues and has put off any treatments or surgeries he may need, for now. It’s definitely the best decision we could have made for our family’s health and happiness.

We promise, you won’t leave without gaining some insight and valuable knowledge on how to help make your goal(s) a reality in more areas than just the gym!

So mark your calendar for this or the following weeks’ seminar, and dream a bit about what you might want out of the rest of this year.

March 2018 Recap

March was excellent month at BCF for so many reasons! First and foremost,

New Athletes

BCF had the pleasure of welcoming six new athletes to our amazing community. Welcome Mikayla, Josh, Denise, Aleah & Brett, and Natalia!

Conclusion of the 2018 CrossFit Games Open

Five workouts in five weeks, and every year gets better and better! From the PRs to the blood, sweat and tears that were shed, we're so proud of the effort put in by our athletes and coaches this year. Thanks to all our athletes who attended Friday Night Lights to judge and/or cheer on our evening athletes, and to those who made it out to our celebratory events after week one, three and five. :)

BCF's First DōTERRA Class

DōTERRA's Deep Blue product was covered, as well as general information and education. If you missed it have no fear, BCF will be hosting a DōTERRA class the first Saturday of every month at 8am. Open to all and feel free to bring a friend! April's topic is allergies, and how essential oils can lessen and sometimes eliminate your allergy symptoms.

BCF Health

Be sure to join BCF's new public group on FaceBook called 'BCF Health' where we share information on health, wellness, products we use, recipes we love, etc.!

Housekeeping

As we strive to keep the facility organized and incident-free, please ensure no more than four barbell plates are on each bar at each plate station. Four for the 10's and 15's (top row) and three for the 25's and 45's (bottom row).

Also a friendly reminder, that unless a class is running over its hour time slot, please be respectful of your fellow athletes by waiting to break your equipment down until the last athlete has finished the workout.

New BCF Swag

We purchased some extra but very limited quantities of the latest apparel order. It will be on display and available for purchase sometime the first week of April. It is first-come first-serve, and please leave your payment on the clipboard in the office before taking the item(s) home.

First Ever BCF Athlete to Qualify for Regionals

From the Open, our very own Tyler Exline has qualified for Boys 14-15 CrossFit Online Qualifier. For those of you who don't know this is the Teen's CrossFit Regionals. Tyler will be competing in 4 workouts over April 18th - 23rd against the top 200 14-15 Teen Boys in the world. It is such an honor to be among these athletes competing, and we will be cheering for him in our home town box! Although, we know he has a monumental task ahead of him to secure one of only 20 spots available for the Games, we are sure going to have fun cheering him on. We will keep you updated on when he will be competing, and you can also follow him on the Leaderboard.

March Athlete of the Month - Ally Turner

If you have seen Ally workout and move at the gym you are just in awe! She moves with such grace and wants to always get better! She is inspiring in so many ways! As our gymnastics coach, she is always finding new ways to teach the athletes and finds a way for them to understand and improve their technique, not just get the movement.

She isn't just a coach, but she's ALSO an athlete and that is why she is our athlete of the month for March! On top of our regular asked questions, I asked her some about coaching!
Image may contain: Ally Turner, indoor

How long have you been coaching?

"This Summer will be 5 years!!"

What made you want to become a coach?

"I’ve always wanted to be a trainer or be involved with athletes somehow, but I didn’t know in what way. I went to school to be an Athletic Trainer, but decided it wasn’t for me. Then I found CrossFit… :)"

What drives you to be a better coach?

"Oh man… What drives me to be a better coach is the people that I’m coaching. I want to be better and do better for them. I know that how I coach directly impacts my athletes, and I don’t take that lightly. I want to be the best coach I can so that my athletes can be the best athletes they can be. And of course, Trevor! I want to show him that he picked the right person for the job. So I’m always trying to learn more or find more ways to coach better for him."

Image may contain: 2 people, including Ally Turner, people smiling, hat, closeup and outdoor

What is the most important thing you have learned from an athlete/or about yourself since coaching?

"I have so many answers for this one, but I think the most important thing I’ve learned in the last 5 years is how to be confident in myself as an athlete and as a coach!"

Tell us a little about yourself and family - Hobbies, interests, where you grew up, occupation, etc.

I’ve been in Banks my whole life, and currently live in my childhood home with my husband, Nick and my 2 year old son, Jackson! My interests include CrossFit (duh), hanging out with my family, and…. Well, that’s about it. I’m a mom. So I don’t do much else HAHA

Image may contain: 3 people, including Ally Turner, people smiling, people sitting

How did you hear about BCF and what made you want to join?

Nick and I joined in 2012 when BCF wasn’t even affiliated yet. We were working out in the High School gym one day when Trevor approached us and asked if we wanted to hop in on a workout. We looked over and saw a handful of middle aged women huffing and puffing and we thought “this will be a piece of cake!” Well, we got our asses handed to us! The word MODIFY didn’t exist in Trevor’s dictionary, so we were fed to the wolves every day we went in. But we kept coming back, and the rest is history!

What are your goals? Personal, professional, and athletic?

My goal is to be a better athlete than I was before I had Jackson. I want to be strong, move well and efficiently, and to be a good example for all BCF athletes. I don’t have any specific lifting or gymnastics goals at the moment..
Image may contain: 1 person

What is your favorite movement? Non-favorite movement?

Favorite gymnastics movement is definitely pull-ups! Strict, kipping, butterfly! I need to improve my C2B butterflies, but they’re getting there! Non-favorite would be wallballs and thrusters! My short legs make it difficult to move the wallballs and thrusters!
Image may contain: 3 people, including Ally Turner

What is your proudest CF moment?

Hmm…. getting back to lifting weight again after having Jackson! I was out for a good year after having him due to a back injury.

What is 1 thing that people would be surprised to find out about you?

That my actual name is Allison. Ally was a name that has stuck with me since the 5th grade. (This isn’t very interesting, but it’s the only thing I could think of lol)

What is your biggest motivation in life?

My motivation is knowing that I am being watched by my son. I want to be a good example in every aspect of life for him.

Biggest impact CrossFit has made in your life?

It has literally changed our lives completely! If we wouldn’t have started CrossFit when we were invited, I wouldn’t now be in the coaching position I’m in, I wouldn’t have all the friends I do now, and I think I would be a very unhappy person. CrossFit has been one of the best things that has happened to us!
